Welcome to Ollie and the Captain – a platform dedicated to documenting our adventures. You can expect snippets of our travels through videos and blogs, with a specific focus on topics related to being a digital nomad, surfing, traveling, and wellness.
Ollie is a software engineer by profession and works for a South African-based e-learning company. The company allows him enough flexibility to travel around the world, as long as he has overlapping times when he is online, and his communication stays top-notch.
Ollie is a surfer addicted to the ocean. He is a real adventurer and loves to explore whether it be on a hike, a walk through the city or attending a big event. For the sake of both of us, the navigation of a trip will always be Ollie’s responsibility. When not surfing or exploring, Ollie can be found sipping a beer at a local pub or indulging in watching online gaming highlights.
Candi aka. the Captain
Candi is a writer and content creator and works online for a couple of companies that allow flexibility of location. The nature of the industry allows her to work for several global businesses – and demands tight management of time resources.
Candi enjoys bobbing in the water with Ollie, surprising him every now and then by catching a wave. She has chronic cabin fever and needs to leave the house a couple of times a day, making her the perfect partner for adventuring. Candi normally keeps track of the finances on a trip and makes use of various mobile applications to help. When not bouncing off of the walls, Candi loves napping and writing outside of her professional capacity.
As a Team
And so you have Ollie and the Captain. Our decision to travel stemmed from the feeling that traveling gives you. All senses are heightened when everything is new. Regularly breaking from routine helps to constantly refresh your mindset and keeps complacency far away!
We used to just travel in our free time, often trying our hardest to convince our respective jobs to let us work remotely for a week here and there. This feeling of freedom led us to one simple conclusion – we needed to make it permanent. As a result, we strive to always keep moving and experiencing life to its fullest.
Ollie and the Captain
We travel the world as a team, aiming to spend half of our time in South Africa, and half of our time in about four countries around the world each year. As a travel couple, we’ve had to learn to streamline our travels together, rather than alone. This means that we’ve learned double the lessons! Our channel and blog strive to share these lessons, tips, and tricks with you – our followers!
We share our insights on progressing from the fulltime 9-5 into the flexible lifestyle of a digital nomad. Offering two different perspectives, we share our journey on how to make the dream a reality for both those working with a company as well as those who are breaking out on their own.
Both of us share a deep passion for surfing. As we travel around the world, we document and share local tips for the various surf spots that we find. The best part about our experiences is that they cover a range of skills. While Ollie can hold his own, Candi is still a proper kook – so this topic shares our insights on both levels.
Travel is at the heart of everything that we do, and each country offers its own unique culture, language, food, climate (should we go on). As we travel around the world, we’ll be sharing our inside tips on budget travel, accommodation, activities, and discovery.
While travel gives you a brilliant perspective on the world (and yourself) as well as epic Instagram pictures, it can also run you down and distract you from routine. We don’t want to neglect the importance of looking after yourself physically, emotionally and mentally, so we often choose to focus on tips and insights on maintaining wellness while traveling.
If you want to stay up to date on our experience and find out about the hottest tips and insights on our various topics, then make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel (and hit the bell for notifications). Be sure to also follow us on Instagram and Facebook!
We look forward to engaging with you. Until then, always keep moving!
