Thanks to the pandemic, remote work has skyrocketed in frequency and preference, with countless people choosing to work from home – even after the office space has opened up. The benefits of remote work are plentiful, allowing people to live a life that closely mimics the dream lifestyle with flexibility, increased family time, and the option to work in slacks.

Another major benefit of remote work is location independence. Being able to work from anywhere with an internet connection is a major win. With many businesses buckling under the pressure presented by the pandemic, booking a remote work getaway is a great way to break away from the city, support local businesses, and give your work a rejuvenating boost.

Without being able to travel like we normally do, we booked a weekend at White Water Farm in Stanford with the intention of scoping it out as a potential digital nomad spot. To say that we were impressed is an understatement.

White Water Farm, Stanford

White Water Farm is based in Stanford, about two hours outside of Cape Town in the Western Cape of South Africa. It’s run by Cameron and Chanel Inggs, a warm and friendly brother-sister duo with a passion for the farm that shines through in their service.

The rustic, chic guest house offers comfort and convenience with the backdrop of glorious mountain scenery. As a sustainable farm, White Water offers plenty of activities to enjoy once you close your laptop. Including horse-riding, a swimming pool, a sustainable veggie patch, and a spa (yes, we know how much strain is held in your shoulders while working).

The Rooms at White Water Farm

Whether you’re traveling as a family of six or you’re a couple on the grind, there’s a choice of rooms to meet your needs. Each is done up with the same rustic charm, with much of the furniture being made on the farm.

We stayed in the Barn Suite and had more space than we knew what to do with it. With a kitchenette, dining area, lounge, bedroom, and large bathroom, the suite perfectly encapsulated the sentiment of being in a home-away-from-home.

Although we went in the heart of the summer, we imagine lighting the fireplace in the winter and cozying up on the decadently comfortable couch. We comfortably set up our work station for the afternoon and flew through our task list, eagerly looking forward to a dip in the pool.

The other rooms on the farm are equally impressive. Each is fully-kitted with all that you would need for a remote work getaway. If you have your eye set on one of the rooms in particular and are uncertain about the remote work setup, then you can always contact the team and ask for their help. They truly go above and beyond.

The Restaurant at White Water Farm

Our mornings typically unfolded as follows – we wake up from our lush bed, go for a jog in the surrounding forest, jump into the dam to cool off, and make our way to the on-site restaurant for a scrumptious breakfast.

What a spread!

If there’s one thing better than an all-inclusive breakfast, it’s one that offers continental and a choice of hot meals. However, it’s not only breakfast that is on offer to guests. White Water Farm also offers a fantastic menu for lunch that can be enjoyed in the sunshine or in their beautifully-decorated restaurant.

Dinner is also available with advanced notice. Each meal is prepared with the delicious, sustainable produce that is grown in their 4,000 square meter garden. When working remotely, time can often escape you and leave you scrambling for something scrumptious. White Water’s restaurant beautifully satisfies that craving.

Top tip: Make sure that you get to breakfast early so that you can nab yourself one of the freshly baked pear muffins or other baked goodies.

Activities and Surrounds

One of the best parts about working remotely at White Water Farm is the multiple experiences available at your fingertips. The farm offers all of the luxuries that you’d expect from a four-star guest house, and then some.

On-site, there is a dam, sustainable produce garden, swimming pool, and lots of space to roam. Guided horse-riding experiences and a menu of spa treatments can also be enjoyed at your leisure.

A short drive away from the farm is the historical town of Stanford. There’s also Panthera Big Cat Sanctuary, and a long road of wine farms to choose from. Including Raka and Springfontein.

And if you want to see what lies behind the stunning mountain views, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised by a long stretch of beautiful coastline that runs through Gansbaai, the Cape Floral Kingdom, and Hermanus.
